Volunteers - Overview
The Plunket Committee is made up of volunteers who meet monthly.
The committee focuses on fundraising for the Birkenhead area. We are always looking for new volunteers - it’s a great way to meet other local families. There are two ways you can help Plunket either by being a Committee Member or by being a Friend of Plunket.
Committee Members: attend meetings once a month to discuss any issues in the clinic, plan fundraising events, put forward ideas, volunteer to make calls for quotes on any maintenance or items needed for the clinic or maybe even arrange to have them donated by a local organisation etc
Friends of Plunket: a network of local parents who are interested in helping out with Plunket activities on a more casual basis, they also help circulate information on Plunket or community events and fundraising.
What does your Plunket volunteer committee actually do?
- Produce newsletters throughout the year
- Organise Parent Education sessions
- Coordinate Coffee groups gatherings
- Organise activities to raise money so that Plunket can maintain its facilities and services
- Coordinate collectors for the annual Plunket Appeal Week
- Arrange maintenance on the Plunket rooms
- Support the Plunket nurse
- Advocate for children in the community
How much time of your time does it take?
Plunket volunteers can give as much or as little time as they want – no contribution is too small.
What can Plunket offer you?
- Experience in working in the community for a worthwhile cause
- Local training programmes for specialist skills and self-development
- Build up a support network of new friends – great if you are new to the area
- The chance to upskill and/or practise the skills you might have gained pre-children
- Experience in meeting procedure and protocol
- The chance to try something new
If you would like to volunteer for a few hours a month, utilising your existing skills or learning some new ones, Plunket is a very rewarding cause to volunteer for.
