Childcare Local
Here is a collection of contact details for locally based Child Care. Often it is confusing understanding the different child care categories and although some of the terminology is intermingled our descriptions might help:
Childcare Local - Normally privately run, offering full day care Monday to Friday, some offer morning or afternoon sessions, ages from 0-5 (although some only do over 2's)
Community Creches - government subsided, morning sessions are normally on a casual basis requiring confirmation of placement on a daily basis, some afternoon session can be booked in regularly, ages 0-5
Home Based Childcare - either at your house or the caregivers, flexible hours to suit (minimum's are set), ages 0-5
Nannies - one on one care for your children in your house, flexible hours to suit Playcentres - parent run (educational course requirement for parents as teachers), philosophy is based on the ideas of child-initiated play and parents as first educators, morning and afternoon sessions
Public Kindergartens - government funded. Offering both 'sessional' and 'full day' hours for children aged 3-5 years. Children attending sessional kindergarten generally start in the afternoons, attending 3 sessions per week, and transitional to five mornings per week, in age appropriate order. Children attending full day sessions can attend up to six and half hours per day. You have the flexibility to choose the hours and days your child attends. The number of sessions and hours varies from kindergarten to kindergarten.
20 Hours Free - In July 2007 the government introduced a 20 hours free subsidy for 3 and 4 year olds. To learn more about this and how you can benefit click here www.teamup.co.nz
